Frequently asked questions

The MUCA main building and the MUCA Bunker are open Wednesdays to Sundays from 10am to 6pm and Thursdays from 10am to 8pm.

The new exhibition opens on 8 May „The Future Is Stupid“ by the British artist Antony Micallef. The exhibition features over fifty key works from Micallef's oeuvre as well as an impressive new series of paintings created especially for the MUCA. The exhibition spans the main MUCA building and the neighbouring MUCA Bunker.

The basement of the main building also houses the Permanent exhibition „UNVEILING“ with selected works of the Permanent Collection to see. The „MUCA Digital Area“ is also located there for a special visitor experience on the „Digital Graffiti Wall“.

At weekends in particular, it is advisable to book tickets in advance via our MUCA webshop. Spontaneous ticket purchases are of course also possible on site at reception, depending on capacity.

Please note: Even with an online ticket, you must check in at reception!

No, tickets must be bought online in advance or purchased at reception. Every guest must also check in at reception.

All visitors, including those with tickets booked online in advance, must first check in at reception. There may therefore be short waiting times at popular times, such as weekends.

With the new MUCA app (for Apple and Android) we want to make art accessible to everyone.

Digital functions, such as audio guides and visual content, make it easier to find your way around our museum rooms.

The virtual tour through current exhibitions offers users with impaired vision exciting background information on artworks and artists with short information texts, images and videos as well as audio elements.

In addition, you will of course find wall texts and/or QR codes with extensive information about the works and the artists themselves in our exhibition rooms. We also offer audio guides and, of course, guided tours for most exhibitions.

Our exhibitions are also accompanied by catalogues and books, which you can purchase in the shop on site or online.

Please note that our public guided tours must be booked in advance.

Pupils, students, trainees, pensioners, the unemployed and visitors with a degree of disability of 50 per cent or more pay a reduced admission fee of 10 euros (combined tickets)/ 9 euros (MUCA main building) upon presentation of proof. Admission is free for children under the age of 12.

We regularly offer public guided tours. Tickets must always be purchased in advance from our Shop can be booked. You can also find the currently available dates here.

We also offer exclusive private tours for companies, friends or families as well as special school tours on request. Please send us your enquiry via the Contact form.

As the MUCA main building is housed in a former transformer station, the MUCA is unfortunately not completely barrier-free. However, we have a disabled-friendly access ramp at the entrance so that access to the exhibition rooms on the ground floor is possible.

The neighbouring MUCA bunker is not barrier-free for structural reasons.

Pushchairs and buggies must be parked in the entrance area, and baby slings are recommended for the exhibition.

Unfortunately, dogs cannot be taken into the exhibition.

Photography without flash is permitted for private purposes in the MUCA collection and all special exhibitions, unless a work is labelled otherwise. Flashes, additional light, tripods, selfie sticks and other set-ups may not be used. Please feel free to tag us on social media with @mucamunich in your posts.

Written permission from MUCA is required for commercial or editorial photography, film and audio recordings. Please contact our press department with a description of your exact plans: presse@muca.eu Without prior authorisation, the commercial use of all recordings is not permitted, nor is the use of additional lights (flash, video lights), tripods, selfie sticks and other structures.

Photography without flash is permitted for exclusively private (non-commercial) purposes, unless a work is labelled otherwise. Flashes, additional light, tripods, selfie sticks and other set-ups may not be used.

Please note that refunds are not possible. However, you are welcome to transfer the tickets to someone else.

We see ourselves as a family and child-friendly museum.

If works of art and content are shown at exhibitions that are not suitable for younger children, we will explicitly point this out with age recommendations.

All (shopping) bags, rucksacks and bags must be handed in at check-in. Please refrain from bringing large (travelling) luggage, as we have limited space.

Unfortunately, MUCA's own car parks are not available. Individual spaces for disabled persons can be offered on request. There is also a public multi-storey car park in the immediate vicinity. However, due to the central location in the heart of Munich, we recommend travelling by public transport (Marienplatz S-Bahn/U-Bahn station and Sendlinger Tor U-Bahn/tram station in the immediate vicinity).

The bunker is directly adjacent to the MUCA main building. In the former air raid shelter from the Second World War, the MUCA usually shows special exhibitions or special formats for the current exhibition, which can be staged particularly impressively in this characteristic building.

Currently, part of the Solo exhibition by Antony Micallef in the bunker.

Highlights in the past include

The world-famous Banksy artwork "Girl Without Balloon" was exhibited in the MUCA Bunker until 26 October 2025.

Damien Hirst's famous diamond skull was on display until the end of January 2024.

Our Giant Wall awaits you on the outdoor areas of the MUCA with changing, large-scale outdoor art projects, most recently designed as a huge spot painting by Damien Hirst.

In addition, the green space in front of the MUCA Bunker is home to changing installations and sculptures. Until December 2024, for example, the large "Pegasus" sculpture by Damien Hirst was on display there.
