Foundation

After several years of sustained success and private funding, in 2019 the decision was made to launch the MUCA Foundation as a non-profit foundation. A high-class board was convened, and the fundraising professionally expanded. The purpose of the foundation is the direct funding of art and cultural activities of the MUCA Museum. This activity is solely charitable.

The main goal of the MUCA Foundation is primarily to expand and ensure a high-quality exhibition program with inspiring and fresh projects that add to the state-funded art scene in Munich. After building relations with other institutions and museums, we have expanded our remit to include collaborations with our international partners, furthering the exposure of the MUCA in new territories.

MUCA pays particular attention to art education in various forms. The exhibitions are accompanied by an extensive program with artist and expert discussions, readings, tours and workshops.

In Munich’s city marketing, MUCA has become an important “figure-head” for the arts. As such, the MUCA Foundation seeks to strengthen Germany as a creative location and continue to create alliances with cultural institutions, artists, the private sector and urban partners.

Objective

The core objective of the MUCA Foundation is primarily to expand and ensure a high-quality exhibition programme with inspiring and fresh projects that complement the state-supported art scene in Munich.

Furthermore, it is the concern of the Foundation:

  • Inscribing Street and Urban Art in Art History
  • Promotion and support of art projects
  • Establishment of a cross-genre cultural network

Tasks

The purpose of the foundation is the direct promotion of art and cultural activities of the MUCA Museum. This activity is subject to non-profit status. The MUCA Foundation acts as the "carrier" of the museum and collection work, including exhibition programming and accompanying programmes such as artist talks, guided tours, readings and artistic event formats.

Support

Use of funds

The funding is used to maintain and expand the MUCA and to ensure a better planning horizon.

The MUCA Foundation was established in order to further guarantee and expand the quality of exhibitions and the requirements of museum operations.

Planned use of funds:

  • Expansion of the digitisation offerings and media stations
  • Conservation and restoration of museum objects
  • Promotion of artists' projects in the indoor and outdoor sector
  • Necessary conversions to expand the permanent exhibition areas
  • The MUCA is taking over the former health care building on Dachauer Straße with a high investment volume, and is transforming it under the name of "KUNSTLABOR 2" to a centre for art and culture
